Husky launches HyCAP 4.0 tooling for beverage closure production

Husky Technologies has launched its HyCAP 4.0 tooling platform for high-volume beverage closure manufacturing, targeting lightweight and tethered closure production as regulatory and performance requirements change.

Announced in Bolton, Ontario, the next-generation injection moulding tooling combines revised geometry, materials and stack design to improve precision, process stability, durability and production flexibility. Husky said the platform can manufacture both tethered and non-tethered closures, allowing producers to respond to regulatory or market changes without replacing the complete tooling system.

HyCAP 4.0 is intended for complex, ultra-lightweight closure designs produced at high speeds. Its tooling geometry is designed to maintain tight tolerances, repeatability and consistent part quality while reducing material use without affecting closure function or reliability. It also supports changes between closure formats.

“The beverage packaging industry is undergoing significant transformation as sustainability goals, regulatory requirements, and performance expectations continue to evolve,” said Dave Morton, Husky’s Executive Vice President, Business Development. “HyCAP 4.0 tooling represents the next evolution of closure manufacturing, enabling brands and producers to achieve lightweight designs, operational flexibility, and higher overall equipment effectiveness while delivering the productivity, quality, and low part costs expected from Husky technology.”

To address wear in continuous, high-volume production, the platform integrates polymer bushings that reduce steel-to-steel contact between critical core components. According to Husky, this is intended to lower component wear and mechanical failure risk while maintaining performance across millions of production cycles.

The company said the tooling’s durable construction and simplified servicing can extend preventive-maintenance intervals, reduce spare-parts consumption and limit unplanned downtime. Husky is positioning the platform for beverage closure manufacturers seeking shorter cycle times, higher uptime and more efficient maintenance while accommodating lightweighting initiatives and expanding tethered-closure requirements across different markets.
